multi-pitching

I spent one day multi-pitching with two friends and an instructor. We went up Physical Graffiti early one morning. It was a good climb for me-challenging yet doable. When you multi-pitch you climb one after another to the top of the rope and then head up again instead of coming back down. As you transition from one pitch to another you wait either on a ledge or in a hanging position. We were lucky to have a ledge which was spacious until the next party arrived...then I got to bond with four men from Alaska (two fathers and two sons). They were an interesting bunch and quite nice though our situation sounded like the beginning of a bad joke, "so I once found myself on a 6 inch ledge with 4 men from Alaska..."
