adaptability

Because I decided not to spend much time worrying about the upcoming adventure, it has in some ways snuck up on me. My family and I laughed last night that in a week I will be sleeping outside for the next 3 months. While I know I will miss sleeping in a bed, I also know that people can adapt to anything--as long as they decide they are going to adapt. I know that if we can be flexible and realize that there are very few things we really 'need', the world is much more open to us.

I made the choice to adapt when I decided to enroll in this program, so bring on the sleeping bag, tent, campfire food, cold nights, rainy days, beautiful sunsets, bugs, and as one friend wrote, "all the terrifying growthful experiences [I] can enjoy."

In talking to a friend last night he uttered one of the best lines of the summer, "You'll be in my thoughts and, if I turn religious, in my prayers." Amen, friend.
